UK manufacturing on the Right track

We were pleased to hear that UK manufacturing activity has increased this November. The Markit/CIPS Purchasing Managers’ Index showed an increase from 53.3 (the October figure) to 53.5 – a reading over 50 denotes expansion in the sector. As manufacturing accounts for around 10% of the UK economy, these figures are likely to reflect the steady improvement of the overall UK economy.

Good news on the employment front, too – UK manufacturers have raised employment at the fastest pace in four months. Analysts are expecting the growth of the manufacturing sector to continue well into 2015.

Whilst the domestic market is strong, manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index in the Eurozone was 50.1, down from 50.6 in October. Manufacturing exports to the European Union, emerging economies and Russia continued to fall.

Ensuring that manufacturing companies have strong branding and marketing will help to make sure that the sector continues to grow throughout 2015. Companies must ensure that new products appeal to customers and exceed their expectations, whilst sticking to strong branding that consumers can recognise and stay loyal to.

Recognising that customers want to look at demonstrations and be as well informed as possible before making a purchase is vital. Simple steps such as providing accurate, easy to read literature, investing in informative websites that appeal to both consumers and the trade, and creating video materials will help manufacturers to connect with their customers.
