Black Friday
Love it or hate it – Black Friday is one of those weird days which has suddenly crept into the calendar, with millions of people looking to get a bargain ahead of Christmas.
But as the nation gets ready to spend more than £8 billion on deals, including this massively unnecessary 4.5kg Toblerone, we’ve looked at a few companies who are turning Black Friday on its head.
Lush’s Orangutan campaign
We all know about Lush’s praiseworthy stance on animal testing, but they’ve gone one step further this Friday, making 14,600 Orangutan-shaped soaps available. The reason? To highlight the declining numbers of Sumatran Orangutans in the wild.
Like the soaps, there’s only 14,600 Sumatran Orangutans in the world, and all proceeds made by the soap sale will help to buy 50 hectares – which is more than six times the size of Buckingham Palace – of Indonesian palm plantation, and restore it back to native forestation.
Stocks have been purposely limited, with Lush stating: “When they’re gone, they’re gone – just like the orangutans in the Sumatran rainforest.”
Noodles vs Cancer
Like Lush’s Orangutan campaign, Gluten-free noodle company, Mr Lee’s Noodles, is using Black Friday to give back.
The company will be donating 20% of all website earnings to Bournemouth Leukemia Fund, and instead of lasting just 24 hours, the campaign will run for one week, whilst in order to raise as much money as possible for the fund.
Well played Mr Lee’s. Well played! ???
Mew-Tube
It’s a well-known fact that pets relieve stress, and Argos is trying to calm down those crazy Black Friday shoppers by creating MewTube – a live video stream where you can sit back and watch kittens play all day.
Ok, so you have to go to the Argos website to watch the stream…and the kittens are playing with Argos’ latest pet range…and they’re surrounded by Argos’ Black Friday products – but the sentiment is there, right?
